Keep calm and carry on. Or at least that’s what they say, right? Sometimes that’s easier said than done. We all get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. From our careers to taking care of our families, to recreational activities and balancing a social life. Combined with managing the curve balls that come our way, it is incredibly important to find things that provide peace and balance for each of us. Below are a few of my personal favorite ways to go from zero to zen and maintain a healthy level of stress.
Find a Fitness Regimen
Plan out your week each Sunday evening. Set aside thirty minutes to one hour, three to four days per week (or what your schedule allows) to exercise and engage in some type of physical activity. Whether it be weightlifting, running, kickboxing, or yoga, get out there and get moving. Remember, comfort is key to maximize your workout. Your activewear should boost your confidence while maintaining comfort. Workout clothes that wicks sweat and dries fast such as performance tees, are great for keeping you cool and dry. Staying physically active is an excellent way to combat stress. Exercising releases serotonin, and serotonin makes you happy!
Get Enough Sleep
Make sure you don’t wake up on the wrong side of the bed! Most adults should strive to get approximately six to eight hours of sleep each night. Getting adequate sleep is essential to maintaining your zen and also helps to maintain focus and concentration as well as decrease irritability. If you have trouble sleeping try to decrease your caffeine intake after 2:00 p.m., exercise regularly, read a book before bedtime, or drink chamomile tea prior to going to bed. Sleepwear also affects the quality of your sleep. Choosing the right pajamas are important to getting a good night’s rest.
You are What you Eat
Eat a balanced diet and have a proper nutrition plan set in place. It is recommended to incorporate at least five servings of fruits and vegetables into your diet each day. Helpful hint: always choose baked, grilled or broiled, rather than deep fried or battered. When it comes to starches, choose complex carbs, such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, or quinoa. Steer clear of sweets and sugars, as they’re known to negatively affect your immune system.
Each of these tips are excellent ways to clear your mind, body, and soul to become a better, healthier you. Try a few of these different tactics and find what works best. Plan out everything from your meals, your schedule, and your fitness regimen every Sunday evening for the entire week. It will keep you organized, focused, and on the right track. Keep calm and get your zen on.
