You want to look your best in any situation. Whether you’re on the job, on a weekend getaway, at a social gathering, or simply hanging with friends, your image is important. Your goal is to look stylish, but why sacrifice comfort?
There is no written rule stating the two cannot go hand-in-hand. When it comes to feeling great in what you wear, it’s all about the fit and material. If you have something that doesn’t fit right, or perhaps is made from an itchy or uncomfortable material, you won’t be happy. And if you’re not happy, your overall appearance will suffer. So when it comes to your image, choose comfort and style.
Pulling Off the Look
What if we were to tell you everyday casuals can be worn to look highly fashionable? You’d probably think it was too good to be true – like heaven on earth (you know fashion in heaven is nothing but loungewear!). Well, it’s true. You can rock casual, comfort and still have the best style on the block.
First thing you’ll want to do is take everything in your closet that isn’t comfortable and store it away somewhere out of sight and out of mind. Doing so will leave you only with your most comfortable options. From there, focus your attention on neutral-colored pieces. This way, you can pull together an outfit from pretty much anything you have. But don’t limit yourself to only neutrals. You want to have some options to add a little kick to your look. Choose a signature color perfect for you and make that your alternate choice whenever you want to liven it up.
The Ease of the Look
There’s no reason to overcomplicate your clothing, so don’t! Keep it simple to maintain your relaxed style. If it has hooks, snaps, belts, buttons, or any other complicated fastenings, leave it behind! If it takes you more than a few seconds to put on or remove, you don’t need it. Speed and efficiency is the name of the game when it comes to an easy, comfortable look. Plenty of quick and simple options exist, such as drawstring shorts and pants, stretchy materials, and trapeze dresses.
Another easy pick is the shirt dress. This can serve as a basic layer for multiple occasions, including work and casual. And while it has a nice tailored look, it’s roomy enough to let you breathe. Throw on some jewelry and really dress it up in this neutral dress.
As for shoes, so many women feel the need to put on an uncomfortable pair of high heels to look fashionable. Fortunately for you, casual shoes like flats and sneakers are in, so feel free to cast aside the heels!
Cleaning is Half the Battle!
If you’re looking to keep it less complicated, have a wardrobe that is entirely machine washable. Nobody wants to deal with the hassle and cost involved with dry cleaning. And to get the most mileage out of your clothes, wash them in cold water and dry on low heat.
Style AND Substance
What else can you do to ensure your simple choices result in stunning appearances? Buy matching tops and bottoms to create a quick and easy coordinated look. Don’t overcomplicate your mild wardrobe with flashy logos, designs, beads, sequins, and such, which can fall apart over time resulting in a rough and sloppy piece of clothing. Avoid this by going for more basic designs, such as stripes and polka dots.
You don’t have to limit yourself to shapely, fitted pieces. If you have roomy options, make them work by showing a bit of skin. Match a oversized fit top with short shorts, or relaxed bottoms with a tube top or spaghetti strap tank top. No matter what you’re working with, you can be a style guru while staying calm, cool, and comfortable!
